In May, the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), in partnership with the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland (VRTI), hosted the event “Ireland and America: 250th Anniversary Perspectives.” The panel featured experts including Professor Ian McBride (Oxford), Dr Sophie Cooper (Queens University Belfast), Professor David Dickson (Trinity College Dublin) and Dr Patrick Fitzgerald (Mellon Centre for Migration Studies), with Joel Herman (Trinity College Dublin) chairing the discussion.
The event explored the rich connections between Irish and American histories revealed through archival records, highlighting how these shared pasts continue to shape both nations. It offered fresh insights into the intertwined stories behind the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary.
